Lions in San Marco.
The lion, symbol of Mark the Evangelist, has been the symbol of Venice and of the Veneto in general for centuries.
Passing through the canals of the lagoon city, with the ship leaving the port, I took some shots of the famous Piazza San Marco and the many lions that decorate it.

The Lion of Saint Mark or Lion of Marcia or Winged Lion is the symbolic representation of the evangelist Saint Mark, depicted in the form of a winged lion. Other elements in various combinations present are: the halo on the head and a book between the paws. The Lion of Saint Mark is a centuries-old symbol of the city of Venice, of its ancient Republic and the current symbol of the Municipality and Province of Venice, as well as of the Veneto Region and of numerous other civil, military and political bodies and administrations.
