Glimpse of the sea from the Abbey of San Fruttuoso
Glimpse of the sea from the Abbey of San Fruttuoso.
When going to San Fruttuoso, you should also make time for a refreshing dip in its refreshing waters.
In fact, in front of the building there is also a thin and short strip of sand and stones that give access to the sea. You can choose whether to rent a sun lounger or lie down on the beach.
On the left of the photo, you can then see the big dog (which I have already found other times here and which must be owned by one of the owners of one of the small businesses on site) that is under the porch getting a bit of shade.

Here is where the abbey is located:
The abbey is dedicated to Saint Fructuosus of Tarragona, a 3rd century Catalan bishop and saint, whose ashes are preserved in the abbey, where they were supposedly transferred following the Arab invasion of the Iberian Peninsula.
The abbey cannot be reached by any road, but can only be accessed by sea or by following two panoramic paths: one that descends from the Portofino mountain above and the other that runs along the coast starting from the Portofino bay. The abbey overlooks the bathing beach in front.
