Wandering through the alleys of the historic center of Genoa, every time I get lost (and that's not exactly a euphemism), I always discover something new.
I've passed by Via degli Orefici dozens of times but I'd never noticed that purple path that leads to the splendid and ancient church in the Maddalena neighborhood.

Built as a Romanesque basilica with three naves, it had a roof with exposed truss, a slightly protruding transept with an octagonal dome and three semicircular apses. Originally, the central nave was separated from the lateral ones by a series of eight columns on each side, above which ran a false matroneum composed of a row of three-light windows side by side.
