The Ancona by Andrea della Robbia in La Spezia.
One of the most beautiful things, artistically speaking, that I have been able to see in the city of La Spezia (obviously there will be many others and even more valuable and that I intend to be able to describe to you on another occasion) is this beautiful glazed terracotta preserved in the abbey church of Santa Maria Assunta.
It depicts the Coronation of the Virgin between Angels, Saints and the Holy Spirit.
Made by Andrea della Robbia (nephew of the more famous Florentine artist Luca della Robbia).

In its upper part is placed the figure of the Virgin, surrounded by a multitude of angels, in the presence of the Lord on the throne who crowns her. At the center of the scene is the Holy Spirit in the form of a dove. In the lower part are figures of six saints: three Franciscans (St. Francis, St. Bernardine and St. Anthony), St. John the Baptist and St. Mary Magdalene. A garland of fruit and leaves in high relief frames the terracotta. The lower predella (location: left aisle) has been lost forever.
