According to a local tradition, perhaps confirmed by a writing of the parish priest, the ancient chapel was already present in Bogliasco since 1685 along the Via Romana. The income book of the nearby confraternity of Santa Chiara cites the first registrations of offerings starting from 1657, the year of the terrible plague epidemic that struck the coastal towns and Liguria; it is therefore probable that this chapel was erected right after the plague in the seaside village.
