The historic porticoes of Via di Sottoripa in Genoa
The historic porticos of Via di Sottoripa in the historic center of Genoa.
Often, when I have to go to the Porto Antico area of Genoa for some errand, I take a stroll along Via di Sottoripa, that portico a thousand years old that passes under that strip of houses on the seafront of Genoa.
Once an area that was not very frequented (and honestly I don't know what it's like at night) now it's a happy place to wander around ethnic take-aways, a couple of fry shops and a few small restaurants serving Genoese cuisine for tourists.

The road, originally about 900 m long (3613 Genoese palms), today has a length of about 500 m, of which 300 m run under the buildings that form the sea front of the Maddalena district, between via al Ponte Reale and via al Ponte Calvi and continues east in the Molo district up to Piazza Cavour. A further, less known stretch continued, with lower porticoes and set back from the Ripa, beyond via al Ponte Calvi up to the gate of Porta di Santa Fede, parallel to via del Campo.
