A beautiful slate portal in the alley of Rapallo

Un portale in ardesia nel carrugio di Rapallo

A beautiful slate portal in the alley of Rapallo.
Walking along the main pedestrian street of Rapallo I came across this beautiful slate portal.
I am very struck by these decorations, like those in the alley of Sestri Levante.

Caruggio or Carruggio, (a word that in the “official spelling” of Genoese should be written (Caroggio and pronounced Caruggiu, because in Ligurian the O is pronounced U), is the term used to indicate a street or alley, even a portico, typical of Ligurian historic centers. The term derives from the Latin quadrivium, or from the more popular quadruvium.

The final part of the path that goes to Lavagna

La parte finale del sentiero che da Santa Giulia scende a Lavagna

The final part of the path that goes from Santa Giulia down to Lavagna.
One of the most beautiful walks that can be done in my area is the path that goes from Sestri Levante to Lavagna passing through Santa Giulia.
This in the photo is the final part of the walk, a few meters before entering the city.

Arches and porticoes in Rivarola street in Chiavari

Archi e portici in via Rivarola a Chiavari

Arches and porticos in Strada Rivarola in Chiavari.
Perhaps it is the alley of Chiavari that I love to photograph the most and probably one of the main reasons is that there are fewer and fewer passers-by and therefore it is easier to take a clean photo.
The porticos are more rustic!

A path between olive trees and slate above Cavi di Lavagna

Un sentiero tra ulivi e ardesia

A path between olive trees and slate on the heights of Cavi di Lavagna.
Some time ago I walked for the first time the path that goes from Cavi di Lavagna to the church of Santa Giulia.
I must say that, apart from the fact that it is a continuous staircase, in the section closest to the church it is very beautiful.
You walk between olive trees and paths paved with slate.
Once you reach the church there are several options for continuing: you can go down to Lavagna (and this is a nice downhill stretch and very beautiful to end the walk) or go up again and there are at least two options.
You can go up taking the path towards Monte Capenardo or San Giacomo which is very tough or (passing after a short stretch of road suitable for vehicles) passing through Sorlana you can go up towards Selva.

I hope I've given you a couple of interesting ideas for your walks!

The path from Santa Giulia to Lavagna.
I had been meaning to walk the path from Sestri Levante to Lavagna, passing by the church of Santa Giulia, for some time.
I filled this gap last spring and I must say that it was a beautiful walk immersed in olive trees and slate.
In the photo, a shot of the downhill part towards Lavagna.

A wall in via Val di Canepa

Un muro in via Val di Canepa

A wall in via Val di Canepa.
This wall, which seems particular to me, is located in via Val di Canepa in Sestri Levante but I have seen others around my town.
They are particular because up to two meters in height (approximately) they are normal walls of stones and cement (or mortar depending on how old it is) while in the part above two meters there are slate slabs set on columns (part of the wall).
It was probably a way to make the whole thing higher without having to erect a full three-meter wall but I would be happy to know more if my hypothesis is not the correct one.

Do you think I'm right or is there a different explanation?

The alleyway of via Bighetti in the center of Chiavari

The alley of via Bighetti in the historic center of Chiavari.
The street parallel to the straight alley of Chiavari also has some very beautiful porticos and perhaps even older and more particular.
They are lower in height and darker but at the same time have a more lived-in appearance.

Arch of Via Rivarola in Chiavari

Arco di via Rivarola a Chiavari

Arch of Via Rivarola in Chiavari.
Walking among the arcades of Via Rivarola there are many corners that lend themselves to being photographed.
Some arches perhaps seem similar but, looking closely, there is no arch equal to another.
Each building has its own colors and characteristic shapes, of the arches but also of the columns.
Slate always reigns supreme and is clearly visible from its dark color.

Alley of Via Bighetti in Chiavari

Carrugio di via Bighetti a Chiavari

Alley of Via Bighetti in Chiavari
Chiavari is not just Caruggio Dritto but, on the contrary, many of the most beautiful and original views are in the two streets parallel to it.
One is via Rivarola (let's say towards the sea) and the other is via Bighetti.
Here you can see, in addition to the column in dark stone, I think slate, also the arch in the same material and, in the foreground, the typical tiles that, if you notice, cover many of the sidewalks here in Liguria.
I read somewhere, if I remember correctly, that this geometrically decorated tile is actually called chiavarina because the factory that produced (produced) them was in Chiavari.

Of course if someone could suggest (or correct) something more they can do it by adding a comment.
