A beautiful villa surrounded by bougainvillea in Camogli. When the season and the climate allow it, I love to travel along the Aurelia from Genoa to Sestri Levante observing the splendid panoramas and also the splendid villas that can be observed. Like this beautiful little villa with this immense bougainvillea plant next to it that I photographed going down to the village of Camogli.

Bougainvillea Comm. ex Juss., 1789 is a genus of plants in the Nyctaginaceae family, native to South America. The plant was discovered in 1768 in Brazil by Jeanne Baret, assistant, nurse and lover of Philibert Commerçon, official botanist in the expedition of Louis Antoine De Bougainville. Baret was also on board because she was an expert botanist in agreement with the commander, dressed as a man. The plant was named in honor of the commander. Continue and learn more on Wikipedia

The bell tower of the Basilica Minore di Santa Maria Assunta in Camogli. Some time ago, unfortunately due to unfortunate circumstances, I often traveled along the Via Aurelia from Sestri Levante to Genoa. The road is long but truly wonderful: many curves, it's true, but an unparalleled view of the Ligurian Riviera di Levante. In these shots, for example, you can see the beautiful church (and in particular the bell tower) that dominates the Bay of Camogli! I hope an unusual perspective of the church.

Overlooking the small port below, the parish church of the village stands on what was the ancient settlement of the Island, appearing almost decentralized with respect to the nucleus of tall polychrome buildings. La Chiesa di San Lorenzo della Costa che domina il Tigullio Occidentale. Percorrendo la strada Aurelia nel tratto tra Rapallo e Recco si scavalla il Monte di Portofino e poco prima di arrivare nel punto più alto di passa nella piccola frazione di San Lorenzo la cui chiesa ed il campanile godono di una vista eccezionale.

The beach of Sori, the village in the province of Genoa. Lately, several times a week, I go to Genoa and since it's summer I love to travel the entire Via Aurelia by scooter to enjoy my Liguria. When I can I stop to take some photos of the various villages you pass through. This is the beautiful Sori seen from the large bridge that overlooks it. The beach and the swimming pool are very visible.

The Sant’Anna tunnels between Sestri Levante and Lavagna. A photo taken some time ago of the tunnels that protect the Via Aurelia in the passage below the Rocche di Sant’Anna. As long as I can remember there has always been ordinary and extraordinary maintenance work. The rock is very prone to landslides and the sea, when it is angry, comes to lap the road.

Chiavari vista dall’Aurelia verso le Grazie. Uno dei punti più belli da cui fotografare Chiavari è la salita sull’Aurelia che porta al Santuario delle Grazie. Se poi si viene al tramonto i colori sono veramente spettacolari.

La vista di Chiavari, Lavagna e costa scendendo dall’Aurelia. Arrivando da Rapallo, una volta passato il Santuario delle Grazie, si apre (a dire la verità solo in un paio di punti) una vista spettacolare su Chiavari, in primis, ma anche Lavagna e il suo porticciolo e tutta la costa fino a Sestri Levante. Mettiamoci anche la luce del tramonto e lo spettacolo è servito!

La Cattedrale di Chiavari vista dalle Grazie. Quando si scende l’Aurelia provenendo da Rapallo, poco dopo il santuario delle Grazie, c’è un belvedere che domina tutta Chiavari. Ho scattato moltissime foto da lì e piano piano le inserirò tutte. Questa, per esempio, ha come soggetto principale la Cattedrale di Nostra Signora dell’Orto e le case del centro cittadino nell’ora del tramonto.

La Colonia Fara di Chiavari dalle Grazie al tramonto. Qualche mese fa, di ritorno da Genova, sono uscito dall’autostrada a Rapallo per fare un tratto di Aurelia che da diverso tempo non percorrevo. Appena dopo al Santuario delle Grazie c’è un posto do si può lasciare la macchina e scattare qualche foto, dall’alto, della splendida Chiavari. In questi tre scatti la Ex Colonia Fara baciata da un sole settembrino al tramonto.
