Una miriade di spezie al mercato della Boqueria di Barcellona

A myriad of spices at the Boqueria market in Barcelona.
The Boqueria market is certainly built to attract tourists. The credit for all this is given by the large quantity and variety of goods on display.
In addition to fresh fruit take-away there are also many stalls selling spices of all kinds, both already contained in bottles and by weight.
I'll leave you to imagine the smells passing in front of this stall!

Here's where the market is located:

La Boqueria is the most famous market in Spain and one of the largest in Catalonia with its 2,583 square meters and more than 300 stalls. It is also one of the oldest markets in Spain: born at the beginning of the 17th century at the gates of the city in the plain of Pla de la Boqueria (which today is a small square in front of the current market) to avoid paying taxes on goods, it was inaugurated later, in 1836, where it is still located halfway along the popular Rambla, between the Palau de la Virreina and the Liceu Theater.

Salt at the Boqueria market in Barcelona

Il sale come souvenir al mercato della Boqueria a Barcellona

Salt as a souvenir at the Boqueria market in Barcelona.
When I'm in Barcelona by ship, if I have time to go out, I always pop over to La Rambla and have a snack at the Boqueria market.
Obviously, since it's overrun with tourists, it always offers things that are in fashion at the moment.
The last time I was there I noticed that saffron and especially salt were present in many stalls.
There were all types and shapes: azul (blue), azafran (saffron), cinco pimientas (five peppers), naranja e pimienta rosa (orange and pink pepper), tomate (tomato), merlot, turmeric, frambuesa (raspberry), Himalayan rose, ajo (garlic), albahaca y limon (basil and lemon), wasabi, chili (chili pepper)... and so on and so forth.
How strong, I didn't imagine there could be so many!

Grilled Octopus at the Boqueria in Barcelona

Grilled octopus with hummus enjoyed at the Boqueria in Barcelona.
A few months ago, returning by ship from the Caribbean, I went to eat at the famous market overlooking the Rambla in Barcelona.
One of my favorite dishes (which they charge like gold by the way) is octopus, which I usually order cooked Galician style.
Unfortunately, at the stall where we stopped they grilled it with hummus instead of potatoes… it would have been better if I had ordered the classic one!

Spanish hams hanging in the Boqueria market in Barcelona.
If you have ever been to the Rambla in Barcelona (the famous, touristy, central street of the Spanish city) you cannot fail to have noticed that approximately halfway down the street there is this very famous covered market that attracts tourists.
At the entrance, almost like lions at the entrance to a sacred place, there are these stalls selling one of the Spanish gastronomic symbols: hams (jamon)!
Of all types and for all budgets: a whole ham or a few hundred grams already sliced (strictly by hand, or so they say) and vacuum-packed.
If you want you can even buy a taste!

Saffron for sale at the Boqueria market in Barcelona.
A few months ago, while passing through Barcelona, I went to eat (like a good tourist) at the perhaps most famous covered market in Barcelona: the Boqueria.
Since it is a place invaded by tourists, you can always understand what is in trend and what tourists are looking for at the moment.
In this case I noticed many stalls selling saffron with different prices and weights.
It does not cost as much as gold but they certainly sell it at a high price!
