La Cattedrale di Maria Santissima Achiropita

La Cattedrale di Maria Santissima Achiropita.
Lo scorso anno sono stato a Rossano in Calabria e, forse, l’edificio più importante di questa cittadina è la sua Cattedrale.
All’interno la famosa immagine Achiropita della Madonna. Questa parola che deriva dal greco significa non disegnata da mano cioè creata da qualcosa o qualcuno non umano.

The history of Achiropita is linked to the legend of the hermit monk Efraim who in the year 570 AD in a field near a cave (San Nicola in Vallone area) found a miraculous image of the Virgin and from there the cult began.

La chiesa di Sant'Agostino a Genova

La chiesa di Sant’Agostino a Genova.
Passeggiando tra i vicoli di Genova, ed esattamente nel quartiere Molo in piazza Negri, si trova questa chiesa (ex chiesa perché ora è sconsacrata) del 1200 dalla tipica facciata gotica ligure con la bicromia di marmo e pietra scura.
Al momento l’edificio, molto bello, è utilizzato come auditorium e, nelle altre strutture annesse, come museo.

Nel dopoguerra il complesso fu utilizzato per alcuni decenni come deposito di sculture, frammenti architettonici e affreschi staccati provenienti dalle chiese distrutte, che hanno costituito il nucleo del Museo della Scultura di Sant’Agostino, finalmente aperto nel 1984.

The splendid coloured facades of the houses in via Brin in Riva Trigoso.
Perhaps non-Rivani and Sestrini will not know that via Brin is the pedestrian street that separates these beautiful houses from the Ponente promenade.
The typical warm-coloured houses so typical of Liguria.

Benedetto Brin (Turin, 17 May 1833 – Rome, 24 May 1898) was an Italian engineer, admiral and politician. Having entered service in the Sardinian Navy in 1853 as an officer of the Naval Engineering Corps, in 1864 he published an article in which he demonstrated the inevitability of the transition to armoured ships, thus finding himself on the same line as Simone Pacoret de Saint-Bon.

Considered one of the main Marian sanctuaries in the metropolitan area of ​​Genoa and Liguria, it was built by the people of Rapallo between 1557 and 1558, together with the adjoining shelter for pilgrims, after the apparition of the Virgin Mary on 2 July 1557 to the farmer Giovanni Chichizola. The current marble façade dates back to the renovation carried out by the Milanese architect Luigi Rovelli in 1896, and inaugurated with a solemn ceremony on 21 June of that year.

La chiesetta di San Sebastiano a Pietra Calante.
Ai piedi della salita per le Rocche di Sant’Anna, anche se non proprio sulla via, c’è questa piccola chiesetta che purtroppo ho sempre trovato chiusa.
E’ dedicata a San Sebastiano ed, almeno esternamente, è molto scarna.
Qui ho fotografato la facciata e la campana in bronzo.

San Sebastiano è invocato come patrono delle Confraternite di Misericordia italiane, poiché si rileva in lui l’aspetto del soccorritore che interviene in favore dei martirizzati, dei sofferenti (l’agiografia vuole che fosse proprio lui a soccorrere i suoi colleghi uccisi in odio alla fede cristiana e/o a provvedere almeno alla loro sepoltura).

The church of Santa Sabina in Trigoso.
The splendid façade of the Church of Trigoso, the beautiful hamlet of Sestri Levante, and its cobblestone churchyard.
Cobblestones are small stones, from the sea or the river, rounded and smoothed by water. Widely used in Liguria, black and white are often used to create designs.

Giacomo Matteotti square in Sestri.
Almost all tourists photograph this square without knowing its name but only for the fish painted on one of the buildings.
It is one of the classics of Sestri Levante obviously after the Baia del Silenzio.
