The interior of the Scrovegni Chapel in Padua

L'interno della Cappella degli Scrovegni a Padova

The interior of the Scrovegni Chapel in Padua.
The interior of the Scrovegni Chapel in Padua is one of the masterpieces of Western art, thanks to the frescoes by Giotto created between 1303 and 1305.
The chapel is decorated with a cycle of frescoes that covers approximately 700 m², narrating the life of the Virgin Mary and Christ in 39 episodes³. These frescoes are arranged in three overlapping registers along the walls of the nave.
The vault is painted in an intense blue, symbol of the sky, and decorated with golden stars³.
On the counter-façade is the majestic fresco of the Last Judgement, with Christ the Judge in the centre, surrounded by angels, saints and the damned³.
In the lower part of the main walls are represented monochrome allegories of the Vices and Virtues, which guide the observer towards the Last Judgement³.
In the upper register are narrated the stories of Mary's parents, Joachim and Anna³.
The two middle registers tell the life and miracles of Christ, from the Nativity to the Resurrection³.

The Scrovegni Chapel is an extraordinary example of how art can tell sacred stories through powerful and engaging images, profoundly influencing European painting of the fourteenth century³.

The interior of the splendid Scrovegni Chapel in Padua.
One of the places I have visited that has most amazed and impressed me. In my experience it competes with the Sistine Chapel in Rome.
Here Giotto created one of the masterpieces of art of all time.
I don't want to write much more because the descriptions of the frescoes and the history of the place can easily be read online (and as always I don't like to copy).

The splendid Florence Cathedral in all its magnificence

Lo splendido Duomo di Firenze in tutta la sua magnificenza

The splendid Duomo of Florence in all its magnificence.
I still had a couple of beautiful photos to publish from the last trip I had made to the Tuscan capital.
And obviously they are of the symbolic monument of the city: the Duomo of Santa Maria in Fiore.
A less classic photo, the first, lateral and a more classic one, the second, also with the Baptistery.

The Metropolitan Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, commonly known as the Florence Cathedral, is the main church of Florence, the symbol of the city and one of the most famous in Italy; when it was completed in the fifteenth century, it was the largest church in the world, while today it is considered the third in Europe after St. Peter's in Rome and the Milan Cathedral. It stands on the foundations of the ancient cathedral of Florence, the church of Santa Reparata, in a part of the city that has hosted places of worship since Roman times.

Giotto's Bell Tower of Florence Cathedral

La torre di Giotto del duomo di Firenze

Giotto's bell tower of the Florence Cathedral.
You can't go to Florence and not stop to see the cathedral (Santa Maria del Fiore) with its famous bell tower.
The colors of the entire work are a kaleidoscope of marble colors: white above all and then green and red.

The Giotto influence is especially evident in the pictorial nature of the refined covering in white marble (from the quarries of Campiglia Marittima and Pietrasanta), green (serpentine from Prato) and red (Monsummano Terme, Siena, Stazzema), and above all in the grandiose figurative cycle that adorns the base of the bell tower.

Torre di Giotto

Giotto's Bell Tower in Florence.
There probably wouldn't even be any need to write what is portrayed in the photo but anyway, for those who really don't know, it is the wonderful bell tower of the Florence cathedral, built by Giotto.
Obviously in HDR.

Giotto's Bell Tower is the bell tower of Santa Maria del Fiore, the Cathedral of Florence, and is located in Piazza del Duomo. Its foundations were dug around 1298 at the beginning of the construction of the new cathedral, when the master builder was Arnolfo di Cambio. In 1334 Giotto di Bondone took over the role of master builder. Vasari, in the Life of Giotto, reports his arrival "in the year 1334 on the 9th of July, at the bell tower of Santa Maria del Fiore", when he immediately began to work on the construction of the first floor of the bell tower, ignoring - according to Giovanni Villani - the construction of the basilica.

Beautiful Florence and its wonders seen from above

Beautiful Florence and its wonders seen from above.
A weekend spent in Florence, at the beginning of October but with summer temperatures is unmatched.
I didn't take many photos this time (also because there are tons of them on the net) but obviously I couldn't help but publish some taken from the splendid Piazzale Michelangelo, the most famous panoramic point in the city.
I'll add more in the next few days.

Piazzale Michelangelo in Florence is the most famous observation point of the city panorama, reproduced in countless postcards and an obligatory destination for tourists visiting the city.
It was built in 1869 based on a design by the architect Giuseppe Poggi on a hill just south of the historic center, to complete the redevelopment work on the left bank of the Arno.
