The ancient Via Cittadella on the Sestri Levante Peninsula.
When you go up to the “Island” of Sestri Levante and you want to visit San Nicolò, you can also go down this narrow and steep creuza, which is called Via Cittadella, which takes you to Piazza Giacomo Matteotti.
When you almost get to the bottom you see this beautiful enormous tree and every time I ask myself: who knows how old it is?

L’isola di Ortigia a Siracusa.
Alcuni mesi fa sono stato con la nave, per la prima volta in vita mia, a Siracusa in Sicilia.
Avevo due opzioni di visita: un giro sull’isola di Ortigia oppure la visita alla necropoli di Pantalica.
Ho scelto la seconda e della splendida Ortigia rimangono solo queste due foto scattate dalla nave.
Assolutamente da ritornare!

Ortigia in epoca greca fu, soprattutto inizialmente, il centro politico e religioso della città; lo dimostra il fatto che nell’isola venne edificata la via sacra(la quale attualmente ricade nell’asse urbano della via Dione e del secondo tratto della via Roma), ovvero quella via che conteneva importanti templi degli dei, come l’Artemision e l’Athenaion (attuale Duomo di Siracusa).

La bianca chiesa di Maria di Nazaret da Sant’Anna.
Tutte le volte che salgo a vedere i ruderi della chiesa di Sant’Anna, all’estremo Ponente di Sestri Levante, scatto sempre delle foto della Baia delle Favole e, se come in questo caso ho il tele, mi piace zoomare sui particolari.
Questa infatti è la bianca chiesa posta all’inizio dell'”Isola” (penisola) sestrese vista però da un angolo molto inusuale.

A creuza on the Island of Sestri Levante.
A typical Ligurian alley, a creuza in fact, made of bricks in the center and round stones on the sides.
Here we are on the Island of Sestri (which is actually a Peninsula) and precisely in via Cittadella perhaps the least known of the three streets that go up to the Castles of Sestri.

Travelling along the streets of the Peninsula (or Island) of Sestri Levante you must cross the walls of the Gualino Castles, the structures built at the beginning of the 20th century by the entrepreneur Gualino.

Castelli Gualino, today Hotel dei Castelli, on the promontory of Sestri Levante. These are three buildings in neo-medieval style built between 1925 and 1929 by architects Clemente and Michele Busiri Vici with the advice of art critic Lionello Venturi, commissioned by the Piedmontese industrialist Riccardo Gualino. The Castello dei Cipressi was intended as the residence of the Gualino family, the Castello dei Lecci as a guesthouse, and the Castello delle Agavi as a service area and accommodation for the servants. They were transformed into a hotel in 1950.

Un bel palazzo sull’Isola di Sestri Levante.
Camminando lungo le viuzze dell’Isola di Sestri ho fotografato questo bel palazzo e stavo cercando informazioni ma non ho trovato praticamente niente.
Forse erano le scuole superiori o le elementari delle Suore e Maestre Pie?

Aggiornamento: mi suggerisce Manrico su Facebook che “l’edificio, che appartiene alle Suore della Presentazione, si chiama Palazzo Pozzo, e venne costruito intorno alla metà del ‘600 dalla famiglia Durazzo”.

Una delle porte d’ingresso del Castello di Sestri.
Qualche tempo fa ho fatto una passeggiata sull’Isola di Sestri Levante e ho realizzato alcuni scatti in luoghi che non avevo mai osservato così bene.
Questa, ad esempio, è una delle porte lungo le mura realizzate dal Signor Gualino ad inizio del secolo scorso.
Non l’avevo mai guardata bene e fotografata.
Come me magari ci sono altri sestresi che se la sono persa.

Qualche foto di Pointe à Pitre, in Guadalupa.
Lo scorso anno ero con la nave, per la prima volta, ai Caraibi Francesi ed il porto di sbarco/imbarco era appunto Ponte a Pitre in Guadalupa francese.
Una volta solamente sono andato a fare un giretto nel piccolo centro che è veramente molto turistico (e povero…).
Tra le poche vie del centro, sotto un caldo terrificante, al mercato dei souvenir e spezie.

La Guadalupa è un’isola delle Antille che, con altre piccole isole vicine, costituisce, per l’amministrazione francese, un Dipartimento d’oltremare dal 1946 e una Regione d’oltremare dal 1983.
