The Mausoleum of Saint Catherine of Genoa in the Church of the SS Annunziata in Portoria.
Last year, taking advantage of the special opening of some Genoese churches for the Christmas initiative called Le Chiese dei Rolli, I went to visit this beautiful church in the Portoria neighborhood right behind the Ponte Monumentale.
The visit, like all those organized for these events, has a limited number of places (bookable online) and is guided.
The thing that struck me most in this church is the Mausoleum that houses the remains of the Saint and benefactress Catherine, who dedicated her life to the poor and needy.
The peculiarity is that the body is practically still intact even though about five hundred years have passed since the woman's death.

In 1960 the urn containing the remains of St. Catherine was transferred from the chapel known as the “Deposito” to its current location inside the church. The saint’s mausoleum, formerly in the upper chapel, was rebuilt by the architect Eugenio Fuselli and solemnly inaugurated by Cardinal Giuseppe Siri on May 8, 1960.
