The snow-capped Maritime Alps seen from Sestri Levante.
On particularly clear and cold days (I have had this photo in my archive for a long time and I really don't think the day I'm posting it was that cold) from my Sestri Levante you can see the Maritime Alps, those on the border between Italy and France, very well.
Obviously to photograph them you need a good telephoto lens!

The Maritime Alps are a section of the Alpine chain located in the Western Alps. According to the Partition of the Alps, they are the Alpine section that extends between the Tenda pass and the Cadibona pass. According to the SOIUSA, however, they constitute a subsection included in the section "Maritime Alps and Prealps of Nice" and extend from the Tenda pass to the Maddalena pass.

The Apuan Alps seen from Mount Groppi

The Apuan Alps seen from Monte Groppi.
As I wrote to you some time ago, from the top of Monte Groppi, one of the mountains overlooking the Passo del Bracco (the road that goes from my Sestri Levante to La Spezia), you can enjoy an almost 360 degree view.
Looking east you can see, very clearly, the Apuan Alps.
You will have all recognized them, right?

The adjective “Apuane” is linked to the population of the Apuan Ligurians, who populated part of the Ligurian and Tuscan-Emilian Apennines and the Apuan Alps in pre-Roman Italy. Strabo called them Lunae montes, meaning “mountains of the moon,” Dante Alighieri called them Monti di Luni, an ancient Roman city in the province of La Spezia.

La vista di Sestri Levante da sopra Villa Libiola.
Diverso tempo fa, ormai, avevo fatto questa bella camminata alla scoperta delle fonti del torrente Gromolo (uno dei due fiumiciattoli che attraversano Sestri Levante.
Si parte da Villa Libiola e dalle sue miniere.
La vista è veramente splendida da qui e proseguendo in alto, sempre più bella!

La neve al Passo di Centocroci lo scorso gennaio.
Quando lo scorso gennaio sono stato con qualche amico in “gita” al Passo di Centocroci (che unisce Liguria ed Emilia Romagna) ho scattato molte foto alla neve.
A dire la verità, a quest’altezza, quesi tutti gli anni qui cade la neve ma lo scorso gennaio ne è venuta giù proprio tanta e, complice il colore giallo di quel weekend siamo partiti.
In un’oretta di macchina da Sestri Levante, facendo la strada statale che passa da San Pietro Vara e poi a Varese Ligure, si arriva al Passo.
Lo spettacolo era decisamente “bianco” e meraviglioso.

Il passo di Centocroci (Sentu Cruxe in ligure), è un valico posto alla quota di 1055 metri sul livello del mare che separa la Val di Vara dall’Emilia, aprendosi sul crinale alcuni chilometri a nordovest del monte Gottero, nell’Appennino ligure.

Snow-capped mountains behind Sestri Levante.
In this decidedly cold winter, a lot of snow has fallen and continues to paint the mountains behind my town white.
This small mountain range (perhaps Mount Treggin?) has remained white even though it hasn't snowed for a couple of days and with the sun they give an unusual beauty to my Sestri and the Favole bay.

Il lago delle Lame con la neve al tramonto

Il lago delle Lame con la neve al tramonto.
Come spesso si dice la Liguria è una terra in cui a poche decine di chilometri si va dal mare alla montagna.
Sul mio sito, lo avrete già notato, si vedono spesso e volentieri immagini di mare e di coste ma ogni tanto qualche bel paesaggio montano spunta.
Come in questo post dove vi metto una splendida foto di un bel laghetto, che sembra alpino, che ho visitato domenica scorsa in una piccola gita verso Santo Stefano d’Aveto.
Sulla strada, nel comune di Rezzoaglio, si può facilmente raggiungere questo luogo che, complici la neve caduta in questi giorni, regala uno spettacolo veramente splendido.
Se poi ci mettete che erano circa le quattro e mezza del pomeriggio, quando dalle nuvole filtrava un pochino di luce del tramonto, ecco a voi uno spettacolo, o almeno credo io!

Il lago delle Lame è uno dei pochi laghi glaciali della Liguria. Si trova nella zona più alta dell’Appennino ligure, nelle vicinanze di un altro gruppetto di laghi glaciali: i laghi delle Agoraie (inclusi nella riserva naturale Agoraie di sopra e Moggetto).
