Some decorations inside Park Guell

Alcune decorazioni all'interno del Parco Guell a Barcellona

Some decorations inside Park Guell in Barcelona.
Park Güell, located in Barcelona, is one of the most famous masterpieces of Antoni Gaudí. This park, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, is an explosion of colors, shapes and creativity that reflect the genius of the great Catalan architect.
Last year I was able to visit it, together with my wife, and of course I took lots of photos.
These were some of the decorations present in the park but there are many works to see.
One of the most iconic elements of Park Güell is the Dragon Staircase. This monumental staircase, located at the entrance to the park, is decorated with a colorful salamander, known as “El Drac”. Made using the trencadís technique, which uses fragments of colored ceramic, the salamander has become one of the most recognizable symbols of Barcelona.
Continuing along the steps, you come to the Hypostyle Hall, a covered area supported by 86 Doric columns. The ceiling of this room is decorated with mosaics representing the sun and the moon, creating a striking visual effect. The Hypostyle Hall was originally intended to serve as a covered market for the residential complex that Gaudí had designed.
Above the Hypostyle Hall is the Plaza de la Nacional, a large terrace that offers panoramic views of the city of Barcelona. The balustrade of the plaza is decorated with colorful mosaics that form geometric and floral patterns. This open space is perfect for relaxing and admiring Gaudí's art in all its splendor.
Another fascinating element of Park Güell is the Portico de la Lavandaia. This portico, with its sloping columns and wavy shapes, seems to have been carved into natural rock. The decorations of the portico, which include figures of washerwomen, reflect Gaudí's attention to detail and his ability to integrate architecture with the surrounding nature.
Park Güell is a magical place where art and nature blend in perfect harmony. Its decorations, from colorful mosaics to organic shapes, make this park a unique and unforgettable experience. If you are in Barcelona, do not miss the opportunity to visit this architectural jewel and be enchanted by its wonders.

A glimpse of the modern arcades of Lavagna

Uno scorcio dei portici moderni di Lavagna

A glimpse of the modern arcades of Lavagna.
Lavagna, located in the heart of the Gulf of Tigullio, is a town that combines the charm of tradition with touches of modernity. Its arcades, which wind around the main streets of the center, are a perfect example of how contemporary architecture can enrich the urban landscape.
Some are very typical and ancient, with slate elements. Others are much more recent and modern (like the ones in the photo of this post) like these on Via Nuova Italia.
The arcades of Lavagna are characterized by materials such as stone and decorated with beautiful mosaics, which give an elegant and refined look. These arcades offer ideal shelter from both the summer sun and the winter rain, making it pleasant to walk around the city in every season.
Under the arcades, there are numerous shops, cafes and restaurants that invite you to stop for a break. This covered path is always lively, with residents and tourists mingling, creating a lively and welcoming atmosphere. It is the perfect place to go shopping, enjoy a coffee or simply observe the city life.
The porticos are not only an architectural element, but also a meeting point for the local community. Here, the inhabitants of Lavagna meet to shop, chat and enjoy a moment of relaxation. This makes the porticos a dynamic and social place, where you can breathe the authentic atmosphere of Ligurian life.
For those visiting Lavagna, a walk under the porticos is an experience not to be missed. In addition to offering a unique view of the city, they allow you to discover hidden corners and architectural details that tell the story and culture of this fascinating Ligurian village.

The building in Corso Colombo with the fishmonger's shop.
As long as I can remember, in this building at the end of Corso Colombo, in Sestri Levante, there has been the Ai Pesci Vivi fishmonger's shop with its artistic exterior decoration.
On the left there is the fruit and vegetable shop and on the right, once, there was the butcher.

The mosaic of the apse of Sant'Ambrogio in Milan

The mosaic of the apse of Sant’Ambrogio in Milan.
The mosaic of the apse of the Basilica of Sant’Ambrogio in Milan is one of the most important works of art in the city. Made around 1200, it is a notable example of medieval mosaic art in Italy.
The mosaic represents Christ Pantocrator, seated on a throne with an open book, surrounded by the symbols of the evangelists. On his sides are figures of saints, including Sant’Ambrogio, to whom the basilica is dedicated. The representation of Christ is typical of Byzantine iconography, with a solemn face and a blessing gesture.
The mosaic follows the Byzantine iconographic canons, with a strong emphasis on the majesty and sacredness of the figures represented. The colors are bright, with abundant use of gold to emphasize the divinity and importance of the sacred figures. The mosaic tiles are arranged to create an effect of light and depth, which gives life to the figures.

The mosaic is not only a work of art, but also a symbol of devotion and spirituality. It represents the continuity of the Christian faith throughout the centuries and the centrality of the figure of Christ in the religious life of the community.

The mosaic of the Madonna enthroned with Child

The mosaic of the Madonna enthroned with Child between Saints Gennaro and Restituta in Naples.
The Cathedral of Naples, in addition to being splendid in itself, also incorporates another basilica, that of Santa Restituita.
Of this other church I photographed the splendid (in my opinion) mosaic of the apse created by Lello da Orvieto.
Doesn't it seem like a masterpiece to you too?

Galleria dell'ascensore di Castelletto Ponente a Genova

Galleria dell’ascensore di Castelletto Ponente a Genova.
