Continue and learn more on Wikipedia

A corner of Via Nazionale in Sestri Levante. An unusual shot of Via Nazionale: without traffic, don't you think? In reality, I took this photo at the end of last year's lockdown when the streets were still deserted. What can I say, you can't see much from this photo of the various activities that take place around the Tomaso Bertollo nursery school (a deputy from the late 19th century), the pink building in the center of the photo. Many activities, when I was a child, no longer exist or have been replaced. There was the 2A stationery shop (where the Due Gabbiani pizzeria is today, even before Mrs. Nasi) to the left of the school, there was Tommasino, the shop that sold seeds and objects for farmers to the right of the school; On the other side of the road there was the florist (where Loris' fruit and vegetable shop is today), the Thea laundrette (now closed), the newsagent's (which is still there although under new management), the small tailor's shop and the Parchi bakery; a little further up there was the Il Genuino rotisserie of the good Maria while here on the right (not in the photo) Mario's dairy. Memories that will slowly fade from my memory too unfortunately!

Pila sul Gromolo at sunset from the drone. Last night I had fun with some shots and footage from the clearing in front of the sports field in Sestri Levante. From here, especially thanks to the drone, you have a completely new point of view on the Sestri hamlet where I live. Some nice photos and some nice videos came out of it. I'll publish the best two here, the others in the next few days!

The Lapide di Pila sul Gromolo in Sestri Levante. This is the famous marble slab that gives its name to this area of Sestri Levante. In the hamlet of Pila sul Gromolo, as soon as you exit the motorway, the second roundabout (the one that joins via Nazionale, via Aurelia, via Giorgio Bo and via Sara). Now, to tell the truth, it is really difficult to read what is written; the small plaque with the transcription helps us:
“To King Carlo Alberto Since by His decree the path from Sestri to Varese has been made a road and has been covered with gravel and equipped with protections the inhabitants of Sestri, Casarza, Castiglione, Maissana, Varese who have obtained the benefit of more agile transits thanks to the excellent and far-sighted Prince in the year 1834 during the ministry for internal affairs of the reign of Antonio Tonduti Count of L’Escarène”

The hamlet of Pila sul Gromolo in Sestri Levante. Pila is a popular neighborhood of Sestri Levante. Popular because there are several apartment buildings built to house the many workers of the former FIT and the Naval Shipyard. It is now a residential neighborhood in all respects. The photo was taken from the heights of San Bernardo and you can see the soccer field (the Sivori A) where the Corsari, the local team, play, and next to it the modernist church of San Paolo in Pila. The quality is not excellent because I was really far away and there was a lot of humidity, however I think it is a pleasant shot.
