Where is the cathedral located:

The cathedral was built between 1151 and 1227 on the site of a pre-existing building; it was part of the Vaita De Domo. It was consecrated by Pope Innocent III in 1198. Inside, in the apse, there is the valuable cycle of frescoes by Filippo Lippi Stories of the Virgin, painted in the last years of the artist's life, between May 1467 and September 1469.

I always really like risseu, that particular decorative art that consists of placing river or sea pebbles (almost always black and white) to create a design.
In this case it is the decoration of the churchyard of the church of San Giovanni Battista in the small village of Mattarana in the province of La Spezia.

Poco distante da dove abito si trova questa bella chiesetta dedicata a San Bartolomeo. La zona è detta “della Ginestra” perchè immagino, sul piccolo monte alle spalle ci fossero molte piante di ginestra.

Secondo alcune fonti storiche, si ritiene che un già preesistente luogo di culto possa essere stato edificato in un periodo che va dall’XI e XII secolo, nelle vicinanze della località “Zenestra” (da qui l’attuale toponimo “Ginestra”), compreso nella giurisdizione parrocchiale della chiesa di Santo Stefano del Ponte.

Il sagrato in risseu della chiesa di Santa Margherita di Antioca a Sori.
Non sono stato moltissime volte a Sori, la bella località turistica della Riviera di Levante, ma recentemente vi ho fatto tappa un paio di volte.
Questa è la bella piazzetta di fronte alla chiesa di Santa Margherita la cui pavimntazione è realizzata con la tecnica, tanto in voga in liguria, del sirreu (sassolini del mare bianchi e neri che creano un disegno).
Se non sbaglio il disegno realizzato è lo stemma del comune di Sori.

L’originale tempio religioso sorse all’incirca nel XII secolo, forse in stile romanico, e con una grandezza adeguata alla popolazione. Dal 1143 fu soggetta, così come altri edifici di culto della zona, alla pieve di San Michele Arcangelo di Pieve Ligure. La struttura fu ricostruita tra il 1711 e il 1714 su disegno dell’architetto Giovanni Antonio Ricca (il Giovane), mentre i lavori di innalzamento dell’alto campanile furono iniziati il 15 aprile del 1740.

La Baia del Silenzio di Sestri Levante vista dal sagrato del convento dei frati Cappuccini il 9 maggio 2023.
La splendida baia simbolo della mia cittadina è sicuramente uno dei miei soggetti preferiti.
Quando lo scorso maggio volevo fare delle prove con il mio vecchio obiettivo ef sono stato fino sul sagrato della chiesa del convento dei Cappuccini, uno dei luoghi privilegiati da cui fotografare la Baia.
Anche la piscina dell’Hotel Helvetia ha il suo fascino!

I really like taking photos in the area of the Basilica of Santo Stefano in Lavagna. In addition to the splendid churchyard (which I have photographed many times) and the beautiful Brignardello portico, in this shot I photographed the street that passes through the square, via Dante Alighieri, from the terrace that is built above the portico itself.

The material available in different areas has influenced in the past the laying techniques and the possibility of also creating decorations, based on the shapes and colors of the available stone elements. In the alluvial plains, rounded pebbles taken from riverbeds are preferred; near the sea, pebbles with a lenticular morphology, taken from the beaches, are preferred; in the mountains, elongated pebbles from streams.
