Not far from where I live is this beautiful little church dedicated to San Bartolomeo. The area is called “della Ginestra” because I imagine, on the small mountain behind it there were many broom plants.

According to some historical sources, it is believed that a pre-existing place of worship may have been built in a period between the 11th and 12th centuries, in the vicinity of the locality “Zenestra” (hence the current toponym “Ginestra”), included in the parish jurisdiction of the church of Santo Stefano del Ponte.

The street called Pergola in San Bartolomeo

La piccola via chiamata della Pergola a San Bartolomeo, Sestri Levante

The little street called della Pergola in San Bartolomeo, Sestri Levante.
Only the inhabitants of my town, and probably only a few of them, know this little street that connects via Monsignor Vattuone (the road that passes in front of the church of San Bartolomeo della Ginestra) to the new via della Pace Nel Mondo (but before I imagine it reached all the way to the Aurelia).
It only crosses fields, some grassy and poorly cared for, others well kept and full of vegetables.

La chiesa di San Bartolomeo è un luogo di culto cattolico situato nella frazione di San Bartolomeo della Ginestra, in piazza Chiesa di San Bartolomeo, nel comune di Sestri Levante nella città metropolitana di Genova. La chiesa è sede della parrocchia omonima del vicariato di Sestri Levante della diocesi di Chiavari. Dal 1750 è stato elevato al titolo di santuario diocesano di Nostra Signora del Soccorso.

Usually the Sanctuary of Nostra Signora del Soccorso, as this church is officially called, is photographed from the facade. This time, however, going down the path of Punta Manara, I took this photo from the path (which here is now a brick road with many steps surrounded by olive trees.

Walking around my town I always discover places to photograph. Like San Bartolomeo Nursery School (called Scuola Materna Don Giovanni Stagnaro) in via Monsignor Vattuone.

Excellent grilled prawns eaten last night at the festival of the Circolo Confidenza di San Bartolomeo.
We queued for an hour but the portions were really generous and the quality excellent.

This is a view of Sestri from above, precisely of the area of ​​Pila and San Bartolomeo, taken from the heights of San Bernardo.
