Some time ago I visited Naples and among all the beauties that the city offers I would like to highlight one, today, represented by the monastic complex of San Gregorio Armeno, right in the historic center.
This is the view of the ceiling of the monastery church.

The church of San Gregorio Armeno (also popularly known as the church of Santa Patrizia) is a monumental church in Naples located in the street of the same name, between the major and lower decumanus of the old town. Together with the adjacent monastic complex, it is one of the oldest, largest and most important religious buildings in the city.

Some figurines from the famous nativity scene shops in Naples.
We are getting closer to Christmas and for this reason I had kept this photo, taken some time ago now, of one of the many stalls on the famous nativity scene street in Naples (via San Gregorio Armeno).
The famous modern figurines that represent the characters of the moment: politicians, athletes, singers and famous people for all tastes!

In fact, the famous street of nativity scenes (via San Gregorio Armeno) is famous in Naples, offering a showcase of all the local craftsmanship related to the nativity scene. Furthermore, there are numerous museums in the city and beyond (such as the museum of San Martino or the royal palace of Caserta) in which historical pieces or entire scenes set during the birth of Jesus are exhibited.

The bas-relief of the goddess Demeter in San Gregorio Armeno in Naples.
Walking through the stalls famous for their statuettes and nativity scenes, I saw a tourist guide stop at a point that was insignificant to me and I paid attention to what he was describing.
Only then did I discover the story of this strange figure, very ruined and ancient, but with an aura of exceptional mystery.

It is assumed that in this very area of San Gregorio Armeno, and precisely in the space now occupied by the Church of Santa Patrizia, the ancient temple dedicated to Demeter stood and nearby there would also have been the house where the priestesses of the cult of Ceres were trained.

Ero già passato un paio di volte lungo via San Gregorio Armeno, la famosa via dei presepi di Napoli. Non avevo mai visto prima, però, il complesso religioso omonimo di cui questo è lo spettacolare ingresso.
