The view of Matera, the pearl of Basilicata.
Another beautiful photo of the many I had taken (almost a year ago now) when I was on an excursion to the beautiful town of Basilicata.
This myriad of houses, torn from the calcareous soil of the Sassi, crowded together truly amazed me.

The Sasso Caveoso, which faces south towards Montescaglioso, resembles the shape of a theater cavea, with the houses arranged in terraces. Inside there are various neighborhoods, districts and districts named as follows: u lammòrde, u paravèse, u pendàfeche, u mòlve, u chianèdde, u casalnàve.

Una vietta di Matera in Basilicata.
Camminando nella splendida città di Matera non si sa proprio dove indirizzare lo sguardo (e l’obiettivo) per paura di perdersi qualche scorcio o qualche viuzza.
Come questa bella stradina che scende, o sale, per uno dei Sassi del borgo.

A glimpse of the town of Matera in Basilicata

A glimpse of the town of Matera in Basilicata.
Walking through the streets of Matera it seems like you can breathe the air of history and culture that many places in Italy offer us.
This glimpse, if I remember correctly, is of the Sasso Caveoso, one of the two together with the Sasso Barisano.
The ugly history of these places, very difficult in the middle of the last century and at the center of discussions and forced actions, is now overcome and tourism is now the master.

The view of the Sasso Barisano in Matera

The view of the Sasso Barisano in Matera.
This city in Basilicata certainly has a unique, almost magical charm.
This is the view of the Sasso Barisano (one of the Matera districts) that can be enjoyed from the Belvedere Luigi Guerricchio and in the background the Basilica Pontificia Cattedrale di Maria Santissima della Bruna e Sant’Eustachio, the city's cathedral.

The Sasso Barisano, facing northwest on the edge of the cliff, if we take the Civita, the hub of the old city, as a reference, is the richest in sculpted portals and friezes that hide its underground heart. The Sasso Caveoso, which instead faces south, located in a wider and shorter blade, vaguely takes on the shape of a theater cavea. In the center is the Civita, a rocky spur that separates the two Sassi, on whose summit are the Cathedral and the noble palaces. Together they form the ancient urban nucleus of Matera, declared a cultural landscape by UNESCO.

I sassi in Baia delle Favole

Sassi in Baia delle Favole.
Le mareggiate di quest’inverno hanno riempito la solitamente sabbiosa Baia delle Favole in una pietraia.
Più avanti nella stagione si provvederà a sistemare la spiaggia per la stagione estiva ma al momento il panorama è questo.
Non abbiate paura perché, se io mi ricordo bene, tutti gli inverni la situazione è la stessa.
