The steps of the church of San Pietro in Portovenere

The stone staircase of the church of San Pietro in Portovenere.
One of the symbols of the village of Portovenere is the stone church dedicated to San Pietro.
Built on the rocky spur that from the center of the town penetrates into the sea parallel to the Palmaria Island.
This is a glimpse of the staircase that takes visitors to the terrace next to the bell tower.

Here is where the church is located:

The first Romanesque part (1198) was followed by the Gothic part with black and white banded facing which dates back to the 13th century and was built by the Genoese, probably between 1256 and 1270.

A glimpse of Spello, the splendid Umbrian village

A glimpse of Spello, the splendid Umbrian village.
On my last holiday I went to beautiful Umbria and visited some of the most beautiful villages in Italy.
One of these is definitely Spello with its stone alleys.
In one of these I found this beautiful red FIAT 500 and I certainly couldn't help but take a photo (very iconic).

Spello (Hispellum in Latin) is an Italian municipality in the province of Perugia in Umbria. It is part of the circuit of the most beautiful villages in Italy and boasts the Orange Flag tourist-environmental quality brand, awarded by the Italian Touring Club. Spello was founded by the Umbrians and then named Hispellum in Roman times; it was then registered with the Lemonia tribe. Later declared "Colonia Giulia" by Caesar and "Splendidissima Colonia Julia" by Augustus, because it supported him in the war of Perugia; after the victory of Augustus, he himself ceded to Hispellum a good part of the territories governed by Perusia and the dominion of the city of Spello extended to the sources of the Clitunno, which were previously under the possession of Mevania. Later it was called "Flavia Costante" by Constantine. Ancient Spello was considered one of the most important cities in Roman Umbria.

An artistic glimpse of Sesta Godano

An artistic glimpse in the village of Sesta Godano in the province of La Spezia.
Walking in the beautiful village of Sesta I came across, and obviously photographed, this beautiful glimpse that really looks like an artistic installation.
The yellow chair hanging on the door (of the cellar?) used to hang flower pots is very particular.

A glimpse of Camogli, the beautiful seaside village in Liguria

A glimpse of Camogli, the beautiful seaside village in Liguria.
Just behind the Basilica of Santa Maria Assunta and the Dragonara Castle there is a small cluster of houses with some almost secret alleys.
This is what you will find in front of you as you walk along with the inevitable clothesline, placed between one house and the one in front, so common in seaside villages.

Here I also leave you a couple of videos, which I made on that same day, in the small port of Camogli:

The most significant architectural aspect of the town is the presence of colored buildings overlooking the beach. The colors and the lighter horizontal lines (called string courses) served the sailors of Camogli to more easily recognize their home among the various floors of the buildings in the village and return there after fishing.

The path that goes from Santa Giulia to Lavagna

The path from Santa Giulia to Lavagna.
I had been meaning to walk the path from Sestri Levante to Lavagna, passing by the church of Santa Giulia, for some time.
I filled this gap last spring and I must say that it was a beautiful walk immersed in olive trees and slate.
In the photo, a shot of the downhill part towards Lavagna.

Here's where the town is located:

Borgo Rotondo in the historic center of Varese. Commissioned by the Fieschi family for the control and defense of the Varese territory, it is made up of identical stone houses arranged along the perimeter which, with an elliptical shape, enclose the two main squares (Piazza Fieschi and Piazza Castello), where the commercial activities, warehouses and laboratories were located in the underlying porticoes.

The steps of the Villa Rocca Park from above.
A few months ago I posted a couple of photos of this staircase taken from below.
This one is the same element taken from above.
I like the lines of the double staircase and also the cobblestone pavement of the space at the bottom of the descent.

The connection between the garden and the park was created at the time of the extension, through a monumental staircase equipped with a nymphaeum placed on the axis of the palace at the entrance from via Costaguta. On the basis of historical documents it is clear that this space constituted the original garden, while the hill above was cultivated.

Monumental staircase of the Botanical Park of Palazzo Rocca

Scalone monumentale del Parco Botanico di Palazzo Rocca

Monumental staircase of the Botanical Park of Palazzo Rocca.
After many years of thinking about it, I finally managed to visit the Villa Rocca Park in Chiavari.
It is probably the most important closed park in Eastern Tigullio and together with Palazzo Rocca they constitute a beautiful example of a noble villa.
The park itself, even though there is an entrance fee (1 euro per person), did not particularly excite me.
The monumental staircase that took the visitor to see the lakes and caves of the park (which is currently not passable) was perhaps the most beautiful element to photograph.
The view of the square in front is also splendid as you go up and I will demonstrate this to you in a later post.
