The path that goes from Monterosso to Vernazza passing through the mountains. Last year I thought about taking a trip to the Cinque Terre to walk a couple of paths. Unfortunately one of my favorites was closed (the one that goes from Monterosso to Vernazza passing by the sea) and I only discovered it when I got there. I only discovered later that on the park website there is a very up-to-date section (here) that tells you in real time if a path is not passable. We therefore opted for a path, perhaps a little more challenging but equally spectacular: Monterosso, Madonna di Soviore, Santuario di Reggio, Vernazza. The photos that I am publishing in this post are of the last stretch, downhill and very beautiful, that goes down to Vernazza.

Sestri Levante seen from the Punta Manara trail. A classic and probably one of the most beautiful (and at the same time easy) trails in Tigullio: the Mandrella or Punta Manara trail that goes from the centre of Sestri Levante to Riva Trigoso. About halfway, when you are about to reach the highest point, you can enjoy the incomparable view of the Baia del Silenzio and the Sestri Peninsula.

The crest of Mount Zatta in Liguria. Some time ago I walked a path that is currently one of the most beautiful I have ever done. It runs along a stretch of the famous Alta Via dei Monti Liguri (AV sign) and starts from the Passo del Bocco to reach the various peaks of the Zatta massif. Peaks that, as you can see from the photo, are connected by a long and spectacular rocky ridge that you walk along.

The summit of the Zatta mountain massif consists of a long wavy ridge, crossed by an easy ridge path. On the outer edges of this ridge are the Zatta di Ponente mountain (1355 m) and the Prato Pinello mountain (1390 m). Between the two ends rises the main peak, the Zatta di Levante mountain (1404 m). The path from Santa Giulia to Lavagna. I had been meaning to walk the path from Sestri Levante to Lavagna, passing by the church of Santa Giulia, for some time. I filled this gap last spring and I must say that it was a beautiful walk immersed in olive trees and slate. In the photo, a shot of the downhill part towards Lavagna.

Forte Diamante sopra a Genova. Qualche tempo fa, assieme a qualche amico, abbiamo deciso di fare la passeggiata da Forte Sperone a Forte Diamante proprio alle spalle di Genova. A dire la verità inizialmente abbiamo percorso per qualche chilometro la strada sterrata che corre a mezza costa (e che forse arriva fino a Campi) per poi dover tagliare in salita passando da un sentiero che sembrava non molto praticato. E poi la vista sul forte, credo uno dei più belli del sistema difensivo alle spalle della Superba.
La sua funzione era, insieme ai forti Fratello Maggiore, Fratello Minore e Puin, quella di proteggere lo Sperone (una dei tre settori vulnerabili delle Mura Nuove) come parte di un sistema di difesa avanzata a catena, secondo la logica del campo trincerato. Continue and learn more on Wikipedia.
Il canyon della Necropoli di Pantalica in Sicilia. Oltre ad essere un luogo già abitato millenni fa, Pantalica, ed importantissimo per le tombe scavate nella roccia è anche un posto splendido per fare un po’ di trekking attraversando più volte il ruscello (in questa stagione ma ho idea che quando comincino le piogge facilmente si possa trasformare forse anche in un bel torrentello) che ne ha scavato il canyon. La natura, poco contaminata, la fa da padrone: piante molto verdi e acqua veramente trasparente! Vi consiglio, se siete nei pressi di Siracusa, di visitare questo luogo.

The ridge to the east from Punta Baffe. Several months ago I took this beautiful walk along the path that goes from Riva Trigoso to Punta Baffe. Once I reached the tower I decided to return by climbing a little more and then passing by Villa Manierta. When I reached the highest point of my route I took this beautiful photo of the first ridge and all those that stand out to the east. The last one could be that of Punta Mesco.

La necropoli di Pantalica, vicino a Siracusa. Qualche settimana fa sono stato in crociera dalla mia amata e, dal momento che le tappe del viaggio erano tutte nuove per me, ho fatto tutte le escursioni. Nella tappa di Siracusa sono andato a vedere la splendida necropoli preistorica di Pantalica, uno stretto canyon nella terra calcarea che millenni fa aveva ospitato degli insediamenti e quindi anche delle tombe. Le tombe, a centinaia (forse migliaia), erano scavate nella pietra (calcarea appunto) e se ne vedono moltissime. Il giro, anche una bella passeggiata nella natura, di un’oretta lungo il canyon è stato molto bello e, in qualche tratto, leggermente avventuroso!

Sentiero per il Monte Castellaro da Via Val di Canepa. Non ero mai passato da Via Val di Canepa per raggiungere il sentiero di Punta Manara. Se si raggiunge infatti in cimitero di Sestri Levante, al suo lato, comincia questa strada sterrata che poi si trasforma in un ripido sentiero che arriva fino a quello più famoso e frequentato che dal Centro di Sestri porta a Punta Manara. Al termine della salita un primo bivio: a sinistra si va al monte Castellaro, a destra verso Sestri e Punta Manara. Se si sceglie la seconda opzione dopo un centinaio di metri si apre un altro bivio: destra per il centro di Sestri, sinistra per Punta Manara.
