This enormous mansion, built in 1880 on a cliff overlooking Capo Caccia, has hosted, over the years, first the House of Savoy, then artists such as Samuel Beckett and Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. In recent decades, it has been converted into a luxury hotel, frequented by Liz Taylor, Richard Burton, Madonna, and many other contemporary stars.

Alghero is an Italian municipality forming the Northern Sardinia metropolitan network in the province of Sassari, Sardinia. It is also known as the Sardinian Barceloneta, or “Little Barcelona”: the city has preserved the use of Catalan, of which it is a linguistic island, and 22.4% of its inhabitants speak the Algherese variant, recognized by the Italian Republic (pursuant to Article 6 of the Constitution and Law No. 482/99) and the Sardinia Region as a minority language. This language is being protected through teaching programs and official use within the municipality. A delegation of the Generalitat de Catalunya, the regional government of Catalonia, also has its institutional headquarters in Alghero.
