Torriglia Palace in Mazzini Square, Chiavari
Torriglia Palace in Mazzini Square, Chiavari.
While walking through the historic center of Chiavari, Liguria, I discovered almost by chance this elegant building overlooking Mazzini Square, one of the town’s most characteristic spaces. This photograph comes from the simple curiosity of stopping in front of a palace I had already noticed before, but whose name and story I did not know yet.
I wanted to photograph Torriglia Palace because it represents one of those urban details that can be discovered during a quiet walk without specifically searching for them. The historic center of Chiavari is full of old buildings, arcades and views that tell the story of the town, and every corner can reveal something worth observing.
For anyone looking for places to see in Chiavari, Mazzini Square is certainly one of the areas that deserves attention. The square, with its elegant atmosphere and historic buildings surrounding it, shows the typical character of a Ligurian town where architecture and daily life are closely connected.
In this image, what caught my attention was the structure of the palace: the two taller buildings appear to be connected by a lower central section, featuring an archway that creates a passage and a distinctive architectural element. This combination of different heights and volumes gives the building a particular visual balance.
I took this photograph to preserve a small part of Chiavari’s identity through its architecture. The most interesting photographic subjects are not always the most famous monuments; sometimes the buildings overlooking everyday squares can offer the most authentic views.
Torriglia Palace is located in Chiavari, Liguria, Italy, in the historic center of the town, an area characterized by old buildings and the typical atmosphere of Ligurian urban spaces. Mazzini Square is one of the central places of Chiavari and remains an important meeting point for local life.
A curiosity about Ligurian historic architecture is the frequent use of arches, passages and connections between buildings. These solutions helped make the most of limited space in old towns built in compact areas.
As I have already shared in photographs dedicated to Ligurian villages and squares on Lucadea.com, this image also comes from the pleasure of observing familiar places with a new perspective. Chiavari, like many towns in Liguria, can reveal small details even to those who walk through its streets many times.
This photograph is therefore the story of an unexpected discovery, created simply by looking carefully at a historic building overlooking a beautiful square.
