Buranco Street square in Monterosso at night

La piazzetta di via Burranco a Monterosso

Buranco Street square in Monterosso at night.
Walking through the narrow streets of Monterosso al Mare, I wanted to capture with my camera a moment of everyday life in Buranco Street square, one of the most characteristic corners of this Cinque Terre village. This photograph of Monterosso tells the story of a November evening when warm lights, outdoor tables and people gathering around food and wine transformed a small street into a place full of life and human warmth.
In Buranco Street, in the village of Monterosso al Mare, Liguria, Italy, I found a scene that felt far away from the crowded summer atmosphere usually associated with the Cinque Terre. The small square was illuminated by restaurant lights and lanterns, while visitors were still sitting outside, talking, eating and enjoying the evening. Even during November, the village had a welcoming and lively feeling.
I chose to photograph this moment because simple situations often reveal the true character of a place. There were no famous monuments or dramatic views in front of my lens, only everyday details: a glass resting on a table, chairs prepared for guests, restaurant signs, conversations and the movement of people enjoying their time together.
What caught my attention was the contrast between the cool autumn evening and the warmth of the square. The smell of the sea mixed with the aroma of local food, while the soft lights created an intimate atmosphere between the old houses of the village. It was one of those scenes that does not need to be arranged, because its beauty comes from the natural flow of daily life.
Buranco Street is one of the streets that characterizes the historic center of Monterosso and preserves the typical relationship between homes, small restaurants and meeting places found in Ligurian villages. A small curiosity is that many of these narrow streets developed following the shape of the land, adapting to the hillside and becoming an essential part of the identity of the village.
If you are visiting Cinque Terre and looking for places worth seeing, the experience is not limited to beaches, sea views and famous trails. Sometimes a small square during a quiet evening can reveal more about a village than a crowded viewpoint. Like other photographs I have shared from Liguria, this image focuses on a personal experience rather than only a recognizable location.
Looking back at this photograph, I remember how a simple walk through the streets of Monterosso created a special memory. Buranco Street square was just a small meeting place that evening, but the lights, voices and people around me made it a scene I wanted to preserve.
