The palace designed by Benvenuto Pesce Maineri

Il palazzo costruito da Benvenuto Pesce Maineri in via XX Settembre

The palace designed by Benvenuto Pesce Maineri on XX Settembre Street.
At number 26 on XX Settembre Street in Genoa there is this beautiful palace, which I have already photographed several times, but only today have I discovered something about it.
It was designed by the urbanist Benvenuto Pesce Maineri, a representative of Art Nouveau and eclecticism.

Where exactly is the building located?

Number 26, characterized by a more mature and less academic style, features sea water as its main theme: spiraling seaweed motifs that are repeated on the façade and form the constituent elements of the antherids, leviathans that become the finishing touches of the arches and uprights of the internal railings, dolphins, and mythological motifs.

A sumptuous villa on Viale Millo in Chiavari.
Sooner or later I’ll have photographed them all, the beautiful villas that populate the western side of Viale Enrico Millo.
As many of you have written, they are almost all homes built by Chiavari emigrants who returned rich from the Americas.

The elegant facade of Hotel Nettuno

La facciata elegante dell’Hotel Nettuno

The elegant facade of Hotel Nettuno.
The facade of Hotel Nettuno in Sestri Levante is one of the most recognizable architectural elements of the town. Overlooking the Bay of Fairy Tales, the building immediately attracts attention thanks to its soft lines and decorative details inspired by the Liberty style, which are still clearly visible today.
Looking at the facade, you can notice floral decorations, rounded frames and a balanced composition, all typical features of an architectural period focused on elegance and lightness. It is one of those buildings that can tell a story even from the outside, simply by observing its details.
Built in the early twentieth century, the structure has preserved many of its original characteristics. The restorations carried out over time have respected its historical identity, allowing the building to maintain its charm without losing authenticity. The warm colours of the facade blend naturally with the light coming from the nearby sea, creating a pleasant visual effect throughout the day.
The location of the hotel is another important aspect. Positioned in one of the most well-known areas of Sestri Levante, it becomes a reference point for both visitors and locals. Its proximity to the Bay of Fairy Tales enhances its visual impact, placing it within an already beautiful coastal setting.
Walking along the seafront or through the nearby streets, it is almost impossible not to notice this building. Even without knowing its history, you can immediately understand that it is something distinctive compared to more modern constructions.
Today, Hotel Nettuno represents one of the most interesting examples of Liberty architecture in the area. It is not just a place to stay, but also a small symbol of Sestri Levante at the beginning of the twentieth century, when tourism started to grow along the Ligurian Riviera.
This photograph comes from the desire to capture an architectural detail that might otherwise go unnoticed. Among seaside views and natural landscapes, buildings also play an important role in telling the story of a place.
The facade of Hotel Nettuno is one of those details worth observing more carefully, especially for those who enjoy discovering cities through their architecture.
