A blue dragon above the Bay of Silence

A blue dragon above the Bay of Silence.
Walking up the road above the Capuchin convent, I found myself once again facing the Baia del Silenzio Sestri Levante Liguria Italy, a place that never feels the same twice even when the view seems familiar. This time, the Bay of Silence Sestri Levante revealed itself through an unexpected detail rather than a wide panorama, pulling my attention toward a small architectural fragment embedded in a villa wall.
The blue dragon stood out immediately, a decorative water spout shaped like something almost mythical. It is part of the everyday infrastructure of drainage, yet here it feels like a character rather than a utility. In this stretch of Baia del Silenzio Sestri Levante, the boundary between function and imagination becomes blurred, and the Bay of Silence Sestri Levante feels less like a postcard and more like a living texture of details.
I remember how similar paths above the convent have appeared in other posts on the site, each time offering a different reading of the same landscape. This time, the story is not about the sea or the horizon, but about a blue dragon emerging from a wall, accompanied by small blue flowers in the background that seem to echo its color. The repetition of tones makes the scene almost accidental in its harmony.
If you are visiting Baia del Silenzio Sestri Levante Liguria Italy, you might expect beaches and reflections, but sometimes the most interesting discoveries are hidden just above the main viewpoint. One of the most interesting places in Baia del Silenzio Sestri Levante is not always the shoreline itself, but these quiet uphill roads where villas and gardens hold unexpected visual surprises.
There is something almost intimate in noticing how the Bay of Silence Sestri Levante can shift from a wide seascape to a single detail like this. It is not a guidebook moment, but a fragment of observation that stays with you longer than expected.

Every time I walk along the road that runs beside the Petronio stream, my attention always falls on this very charming little villa.
On the façade there are several coats of arms that intrigue me, but I don’t know anything about them.

A Villa on Millo Street in Chiavari

Una bella villa in Viale Millo a Chiavari

A Villa on Millo Street in Chiavari.
Whenever I walk along Enrico Millo Street in Chiavari, I find myself admiring the many attractive villas that line the road. It is a long, straight street with a distinctive residential character, and I enjoy looking at the different buildings as I pass. Some catch my attention because of their decorative details, while others stand out through their proportions and understated elegance.
The villa in this photograph belongs to the second group. It has two storeys and a relatively simple appearance, without an excess of ornamentation, yet it feels solid and imposing. I like the way its architecture combines straightforward lines with a sense of dignity. Sometimes a building does not need elaborate decorations or an unusual shape to make a strong impression. Its overall proportions and the way it sits within the streetscape can be enough to make it worth photographing.
Enrico Millo Street is named after Enrico Millo, an Italian naval officer and politician who was born in Chiavari in 1865. He became known for his naval career and for his role during the Italo-Turkish War. His name gives this ordinary-looking urban street a connection to the city’s wider history, something that is easy to overlook while walking through the neighbourhood.
Chiavari lies in the Metropolitan City of Genoa, in Liguria, on Italy’s north-western coast. The town is especially well known for its historic centre, traditional arcades, narrow lanes and local shops. However, I also enjoy exploring the streets outside the oldest part of town. They reveal another side of Chiavari, with residential buildings, elegant villas and architectural details that help define its character.
This is one of the things I like most about urban photography: looking beyond the most famous sights and paying attention to buildings that are part of everyday life. A villa like this might go unnoticed by someone passing in a hurry, but taking a moment to look at it reveals the balance of its design and the quiet presence it brings to the street. I enjoy collecting these views during my walks because they offer a personal way to document the places I know.
Whenever I return to Millo Street, I find myself looking at the houses along the way and wondering about their histories and the people who have lived in them. This villa caught my eye because it manages to be both simple and imposing, making it a rewarding subject for a photograph.

The Yellow Seaside Villa in Bogliasco, Liguria

Le belle ville sul mare a Bogliasco in Liguria

The Yellow Seaside Villa in Bogliasco, Liguria
The charming seaside village of Bogliasco, in Liguria, offers beautiful views for anyone who enjoys photographing the Italian coast. Along the waterfront, colourful buildings, small boats and distinctive architecture come together to create the atmosphere that makes this part of the Italian Riviera so appealing.
In this photograph, I captured a lovely yellow villa overlooking the sea. Its distinctive shape gives it an almost castle-like appearance, making it stand out against the surrounding landscape. The warm colour of the facade contrasts beautifully with the blue water, while the small harbour in the background completes the composition and adds to the charm of the scene.
I enjoy photographing places like this because even a simple view can tell a story about a location. The villa immediately attracts attention, but the sea and harbour are just as important in creating a sense of depth. The architecture and the coastal scenery complement each other naturally, without the need for elaborate effects or an artificial composition.
Bogliasco is located in the Metropolitan City of Genoa, in Liguria, north-western Italy. It is a small coastal village with the distinctive character of the seaside communities found along the Italian Riviera. The sea has played an important role in local life for generations, particularly through fishing and other maritime activities. The harbour remains an important feature of the village landscape and reflects its long-standing connection with the sea.
One interesting feature of Ligurian seaside villages is the way their buildings often follow the natural shape of the coastline. With limited space between the hills and the water, houses and narrow streets fit closely into the landscape. This creates distinctive viewpoints and photographic opportunities that change with the light and the weather.
I took this photograph because I was drawn to the contrast between the yellow villa, which almost resembles a small castle, and the blue sea. The harbour in the background adds context and completes the view, capturing a characteristic corner of Bogliasco.
For me, this is part of the appeal of exploring the Ligurian coast with a camera: discovering buildings, colours and views that might otherwise be overlooked. Even a brief stop can reveal an interesting detail that makes a photograph memorable.

A Seaside Villa in Pieve Ligure

Una bella villa con vista mare a Pieve Ligure

A Seaside Villa in Pieve Ligure.
A seaside villa in Pieve Ligure is the kind of subject that can suddenly catch my attention while I am travelling along the Aurelia road. This beautiful villa overlooking the Ligurian Sea was photographed during one of my many journeys between Genoa and Sestri Levante, and what immediately attracted me was the richly decorated façade.
Some time ago, for personal reasons, I found myself travelling very frequently by scooter along the Aurelia between Genoa and my home area around Sestri Levante. Since I was making the same journey again and again, I started paying much more attention to the buildings and landscapes along the road. Instead of simply thinking about the destination, I began noticing small details that would otherwise have gone unnoticed and photographing many of them.
Pieve Ligure is particularly interesting from this point of view. This small coastal town in Liguria, Italy, rises along the hills above the Ligurian Sea, creating a landscape where houses, gardens, stone walls and sea views often appear together. The road offers several beautiful viewpoints, and on a clear day the combination of the Mediterranean landscape and the colourful architecture can be especially striking.
In this photograph, it was the façade that made me stop and look more carefully. The warm yellow and pink tones, the dark shutters and the decorative motifs around the windows give the building a distinctive appearance. I particularly like the way the painted details stand out against the intense blue of the sky.
The lower part of the property adds another interesting element to the composition. Stone walls support terraces filled with plants, flowers and vines, creating a strong connection between the house and the hillside. Rather than looking like an isolated building, the villa seems to be part of the landscape, following the slope and opening towards the sea.
I took this photograph in 2023, during one of those repeated journeys along the Aurelia. I was not looking for a famous landmark or a specific tourist attraction. I simply noticed an attractive house from the road and decided that it deserved a photograph. This is one of the reasons I enjoy travelling through Liguria with a camera: sometimes the most memorable images come from places that are not listed in a guidebook.
If you are searching for beautiful coastal views in Liguria, Pieve Ligure is certainly a place worth exploring slowly. The road between Genoa and Sestri Levante offers countless details like this one, from traditional houses to stone terraces and unexpected glimpses of the sea. I often collect similar discoveries on Lucadea.com, where I can return to the places I photographed and share the stories behind them.

Where exactly is this villa located?

A beautiful villa on Buenos Aires Avenue in Lavagna

Bella villa sul Corso Buenos Aires a Lavagna, una delle eleganti costruzioni residenziali del viale alberato

A beautiful villa on Buenos Aires Avenue in Lavagna.
Walking along the long tree-lined avenue in Lavagna, between the town centre and the area leading towards the Entella River, I stopped once again in front of one of the villas that makes this part of town interesting to photograph. Looking for beautiful villas in Lavagna, especially along Buenos Aires Avenue, reveals a side of the town that feels quite different from the better-known historic centre.
This is exactly the kind of walk I enjoy making with my camera. I do not always start with a particular subject in mind. Instead, I look at façades, houses, gardens and architectural details, waiting for something to catch my attention. This building did just that because of its elegant appearance and the way it stands along the avenue.
Buenos Aires Avenue crosses an important part of Lavagna and continues towards the Entella River and neighbouring Chiavari. Along the road there are several attractive houses, villas and residential buildings, giving this area a character that is quite different from the narrow streets of the old town.
I took this photograph during one of those walks. I did not know the name of the villa, and even now I would rather not give it a name without reliable information. This happens to me quite often when photographing buildings: a façade can make me curious long before I know anything about its history.
That uncertainty is actually part of what I like about this kind of photograph. A house may be well known to local residents while remaining completely unidentified to someone who discovers it through an image. In this case, I would genuinely like to know more about the building, when it was constructed and perhaps who lived here over the years.
I do not want to invent a story for a villa whose history I cannot verify. Instead, I prefer to let the photograph raise the question and perhaps allow someone who knows Lavagna well to provide the missing details.
The geographical setting is Lavagna, Liguria, Italy, in the eastern part of the Tigullio area. It is a part of the coast I know quite well, yet I continue to photograph it because familiar places can still reveal new subjects. The villas along Buenos Aires Avenue have almost become a small personal collection for me. Whenever I notice one I have not photographed before, I naturally feel like stopping.
There is also a small detail behind the name of the avenue. Buenos Aires Avenue takes its name from Buenos Aires, the capital of Argentina, a name that appears in streets and avenues in several Italian towns. Here it marks a broad, tree-lined urban route that feels very different from the narrow lanes of the historic centre.
My main interest, however, remains photographic. I am not trying to document a famous monument or a celebrated architectural masterpiece. I simply wanted to preserve the appearance of a building that caught my eye while I was walking. This is one of the ways I enjoy photographing Lavagna: collecting images of everyday buildings before I even know whether they have a documented history.
I have already written about other villas in the same area, including Villa Castagnino in Lavagna. That kind of post is one of the reasons I have started paying even more attention to Buenos Aires Avenue. One photograph leads naturally to another, and gradually these buildings are becoming a personal photographic journey through this part of town.
This will probably not be the last villa from Lavagna that I publish. I have photographed several others, and I would like to share more of them over time, especially if I can discover something reliable about their names and histories.
If you are visiting Lavagna and wondering what to see beyond the historic centre, walking along its residential streets can reveal a quieter side of the town. There may be no famous landmark at every corner, but houses, villas and façades can become interesting photographic subjects when you take the time to notice them.
That is exactly the kind of discovery I enjoy turning into a photograph. A building may simply be another house for someone passing by, but for me, at that particular moment, it became something worth stopping for and remembering.
I think this is one of the most enjoyable aspects of keeping a photo blog. Not every image has to show a famous place. Sometimes a photograph can simply record the moment when an ordinary street offered something unexpected.
And perhaps that is why I keep coming back to places I already know. There is always another façade, another villa or another detail waiting to be noticed.
